Brazil international Neymar looks to be heading for the Paris Saint-Germain exit door after sporting director Leonardo confirmed the forward has not been included in Sunday’s squad for the home clash with Nimes (PSG 1/10, draw 17/2, Nimes 22/1 – Match Betting).
Neymar, who cost PSG a world-record 222million euros, made it clear this summer that he wants to leave the Parc des Princes after becoming unhappy with life in the French capital.
Since joining Les Parisiens in August 2017 from Barcelona, he has scored 34 goals from 36 Ligue 1 appearances, winning the league title in both seasons and also landing the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue.
However, injuries have affected his playing time, while his off-field antics have not gone down well with the club’s hierarchy, also bringing about criticism from large sections of supporters.
Reports this summer have linked the 27-year-old with a return to former employers Barca and also arch-rivals Real Madrid, who have been splashing the cash during this transfer window.
It has now been confirmed Neymar has been left out of the squad to face Nimes in the season-opener, which has cast further doubt over his future at the club.
Leonardo also confirmed “talks are more advanced than before” over an exit for the forward, although “no agreement” has been reached with a potential suitor.
With or without Neymar, PSG will be hoping to make a serious challenge for the Champions League this season after falling at the last-16 stage the past three years.
