Romelu Lukaku’s agent, Federico Pastorello, says the Manchester United (11/10 – Top-Four Finish) striker is dreaming of joining Inter Milan after holding talks with the Italian club.
The 26-year-old has struggled to settle since joining the Red Devils from Everton in a £75million deal during the summer of 2017.
He netted 25 goals in the Premier League for Everton during the 2016-17 campaign but has since failed to match that haul.
Lukaku found the back of the net on just 12 occasions in the league last term and has subsequently been linked with an exit from Old Trafford, having lost his starting berth following the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
It’s understood that Solskjaer is looking to bring in young British talent this summer and he may need to part with Lukaku to ensure he has funds to play with.
The striker’s departure appears to be drawing closer after his agent flew to Milan earlier this week to speak with the Serie A outfit.
“Yes, he’s publicly expressed his plans and desires,” Pastorello said. “We’ll see what happens.
“Lukaku [joining Inter] is a dream, a difficult one to make happen as such, but I believe nothing is impossible. It’s not impossible and Inter is trying hard.”
Reports claim a swap deal could even be on the cards with Inter striker Mauro Icardi (3/1 – Manchester United – Club After Summer Transfer Window) heading in the opposite direction following another turbulent season at the San Siro.
Inter chief Beppe Marotta also confirmed a meeting has taken place with Pastorello, admitting there is an interest in Lukaku, but he claims the bulk of the discussion focused on Pastorello’s other client, Edoardo Vergani.
Marotta said: “We talked about Vergani [first] because his is a more urgent situation. In the next few days, we’ll talk about the rest.”
Pressed on Lukaku, he added: “It’s early.”
Odds subject to change.
