‘Gers fan opts for a nostalgic trip to Mull to celebrate

FORGET about heading off to the Caribbean or any other luxury holiday destination in the world for big Betfred winner Jimmy Heron.

The self-employed electrician from Scotland, who has won £30,054 from a tiny £2.10 stake on Bonus King bingo, has opted to very sensibly spend his winnings on a replacement second hand car – and a new boiler.

But as for holidays you can’t beat home comforts for 61-year-old bachelor Jimmy, who is a regular at the Betfred shop at Calderwood Square, East Kilbride.

He’s opted for the Isle of Mull, which has poignant memories for him as his late mother lived there – and he’ll get the chance to look up family friends.

“I let out a big roar when I’d won,” said jubilant Jimmy – a teetotaller who celebrated quietly at his home in East Kilbride, near the shop.

“I was up at 4.20 am the next day because I couldn’t sleep and got on the computer checking out the price of boilers and a small, second-hand, run-around car to replace my van.”

He added: “Getting to the Isle of Mull is just fine for me … there is nowhere else I’m interested in going. My mother lived there until she died in 2008 so it will be good to look up her old friends.

To get a new boiler, car and holiday from just a £2.10 bet is great. I’m a big bingo fan having switched from the 49’s. I love number games … numbers make the world go by! I’m a Rangers fan and on a Saturday get a football bet on and maybe one on the horses too, but I’ve never ever won this much.”

Jimmy permed 30p six-folds from seven selections – totalling his stake to £2.10p – on numbers 1, 8, 17, 19, 20, 25 and 49; which landed him the £30,054 jackpot for a full house.

Betfred boss Fred Done said: “Well done to this canny fella from north of the border who has emptied my pockets big time from such a tiny stake. Glad to see he won’t be left out in the cold next winter!”
