Fulham boss Scott Parker has called for his side to delay what looks an inevitable relegation from the Premier League by picking up a positive result at Watford on Tuesday (Match Betting – Watford 8/11, draw 29/10, Fulham 21/5).

Defeat at Vicarage Road will seal Fulham’s return to the Championship after just one season in the top flight.

The signs do not look positive for the Cottagers as they are on an eight-match losing run, while Parker has lost all four matches since he took temporary charge at the end of February.

However, the former England international feels his side have delivered some improved performances over recent weeks and he believes it is important they delay their relegation by picking up at least a point.

“I think it’s vitally important,” Parker said when asked about the trip to Vicarage Road. “The scenario is what it is. It’s a massive game for us to not be relegated tomorrow night.

“The team, the football club, and everyone associated with it needs a win really. I think performances have got better but ultimately we sit here without a win for some time now.”

Watford have won three matches on the spin at Vicarage Road and another victory on Tuesday would see them surpass their best ever points tally as a Premier League club.

The Hornets (10/1 to win the FA Cup) also have an FA Cup semi-final against Wolves at Wembley to look forward to on Sunday although that match could act as a distraction, with the possibility of boss Javi Gracia making a number of changes to his Premier League line-up.

The Spaniard, who has impressed during his time in the Watford dugout, feels the best way to prepare for Sunday’s cup clash is by beating Fulham.

Gracia said: “That is the best way to respect the FA Cup and to respect the Premier League as well.”
