You have to look on the bright side of life if you are a United fan, knowing we’ve got Messi and co in the next round of the Champions League.

Ole’s boys have it all to do now, having drawn 7/2 third favourites Barcelona in the last eight of the Big Ears trophy.

And if that isn’t enough, should the Reds triumph, it’s Liverpool next, who will surely beat Porto in the semi’s.

At least United and City have been kept apart in the draw made on Friday in Switzerland, with the Blues having to play Spurs in the only all-English tie.

If City do put one over inconsistent Tottenham, they can expect to play Ronaldo’s Juventus in the next round.

Juve got arguably the easiest draw, playing surprise package Ajax …. although some would say it’s those pesky Scousers who got the luck of the draw as they have Porto in the quarters.

Tell you what though, there are now some brilliant Champions League tussles to look forward to.

City are 9/4 favourites with Betfred to win the competition, with Juve’s favourable draw seeing them cut to 10/3 second favouritism.

Barca are next at 7/2, Liverpool 4/1, United 16/1 and Spurs 20/1 – with the two outsiders Ajax and Porto 33/1 and 80/1 respectively.

So who’s betting on an all-Manchester final? That’s 12/1 with Betfred.

Meanwhile the prospect of Manchester’s big two playing each other in the latter stages of the FA Cup is still a distinct possibility, for I fully believe United will overcome Wolves tonight after City have of course beaten Championship side Swansea.

City are now 5/1 for the quad and to be honest, even coming from a big red, you just can’t see them being beaten by anyone … and they’re getting the luck of the draw again having avoided Barca, Juventus and, yes, United in Europe!
