Arsenal head coach Unai Emery is looking forward to Sunday’s clash with in-form Manchester United and wants his men to be right at the top of their game (Arsenal 7/5, United 2/1, draw 13/5 – Match Betting).
The Gunners welcome Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to the Emirates Stadium sitting in fifth place in the Premier League standings, with 57 points from 29 games played.
They are embroiled in a battle for the fourth Champions League spot, with sixth-placed Chelsea one point behind and the Red Devils currently in fourth but just a point better off than the north Londoners (United 11/10, Arsenal 15/8 – Top 4 Finish).
Tottenham’s recent dip in form means they are now also catchable in third but it is likely that Mauricio Pochettino’s men will nail down one of the places available for next season’s elite club competition, and so this weekend’s tussle is vital for both clubs involved.
Emery recognises the Old Trafford outfit are now a much better side than earlier in the campaign with the Norwegian tactician at the helm, but feels his charges have the ability to compete.
“They are in a very good moment but we are together in the table,” he said. “We played against them one month ago in the FA Cup, we lost 3-1 but I remember we did very good things, created chances.”
United’s thrilling 3-1 Champions League triumph over Paris Saint-Germain earlier this week proves the fighting spirit so lacking under Jose Mourinho is now very much back.
And, with that in mind, Emery has urged his squad to ensure they are right up for the match.
“We need to have a very big performance from each player and tactically like a team,” he added. “But I am looking forward also to playing against a team like Manchester United and how they are in this moment with each player – very big confidence after the PSG match.”
