So that’s it, the transfer window is officially shut and for a January – it was a pretty busy deadline day!

Yesterday’s biggest story came with Arsenal finally completing the loan signing of Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez.

The 25-year-old joins the Gunners for the rest of the season, with the North London side having the option to make the deal a permanent one in the summer.

Arguably the ‘signing’ of the day though belonged to Manchester United, who managed to tie down Anthony Martial to a new five-year contract at Old Trafford.

Just the one major departure for the Reds – with Marouane Fellaini leaving the club in favour of a switch to Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng.

Surprisingly, there was much activity further north at St James’ Park, with Newcastle United completing a record £21m signing of Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron – and picking up Monaco defender Antonio Barreca on loan.

Rumour has it Rafa Benitez sorted both signings out of his own pocket.

Burnley completed the signing of Peter Crouch, who makes his return to the Premier League, with Sam Vokes going the opposite way to join Stoke City.

Leicester City made the shrewd signing of Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans, and Wolves equalled their club record by spending £18m for the services of wing-back Jonny Otto from Atletico Madrid.

Outside of England we saw Barcelona capture Atletico Mineiro defender Emerson on a five-year-deal starting in the summer, and great news for Chelsea as Bayern Munich didn’t manage to get the signing of youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi done this month, although you feel that is one that will resurface in the summer.

The most dramatic story of the day came in the last hour of the deadline, with Crystal Palace agreeing a deal to sign Michy Batshuayi on loan!

All-in-all, a fairly busy deadline day for the January transfer window!
