Former West Germany star and current Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness feels Mesut Ozil is the wrong man to captain Arsenal if they want success (Arsenal 9/4 Top 4 Premier League Finish).

Ozil has been handed the skipper’s armband at the Emirates Stadium but has been unable to inspire his team-mates to date, with the north Londoners going down 2-0 at home to Manchester City in their season-opener before falling 3-2 to Chelsea on Saturday.

With Unai Emery now in the dug-out and a few new faces at the club, it was hoped that the Gunners would be able to put up a better showing in the league and challenge for the top-four, but it seems as though there is much work to do.

In their defence, they have been beaten by the champions and a Blues side trying to knock City off their perch under new coach Maurizio Sarri, and Emery’s men will hope to pick up their first points when they welcome West Ham across the capital on Saturday.

However, Hoeness has questioned whether Arsenal will ever succeed with Ozil as captain and he clearly does not rate the former Germany midfielder.

“I’ve been watching the player for a long time and he’s a well-marketed product whose image is a lot better than he is, which is the only big blame for me,” he said.

“Had (Germany manager Joachim) Low gone to Arsenal more often in London and looked at him properly, he probably would not have taken him for sporting reasons. It is a miracle that he is now captain at Arsenal.”

The top four might be beyond the former Premier League champions and 1/3 to end up in the top six seems more realistic.
