Andrea Atzeni says he’s heard nothing but good things about Without Parole’s ability from regular jockey Frankie Dettori after being handed the ride for the Sussex Stakes.

The son of Frankel is the 7/4 favourite with Betfred for the feature race on day two of Glorious Goodwood after winning all four of his previous outings.

Having stormed to victory at Yarmouth and Sandown this year, the three-year-old landed his first Group 1 crown when edging out Gustav Klimt in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.

A second Group 1 title is now within the sights of the John Gosden-trained colt as he prepares to do battle with seven rivals, including Expert Eye, who is 5/2 to follow up his own Royal triumph.

Sir Michael Stoute’s charge had been well beaten in his attempt to win the 2000 Guineas, finishing 10th, but showed real quality to claim the Jersey Stakes.

Despite failing at his previous attempt at a mile in the Guineas, Expert Eye has been stepped back up for the Sussex Stakes and is expected to go close.

Beat The Bank (6/1) and the Aidan O’Brien-trained Gustav Klimt (also 6/1) could also provide a stiff challenge to Without Parole although Atzeni is optimistic over his ride’s chances.

With regular jockey Dettori suspended, Atzeni has been getting to know Without Parole and is excited about heading to the stalls on Wednesday.

Atzeni told Qipco British Champions Series: “He’s a gorgeous looking horse and, for a son of Frankel, very laid back, very cool and uncomplicated. He’s a great ride to get.

“I spoke to Frankie about him and you can literally put him anywhere in a race. He doesn’t pull, stays the trip very well, is unbeaten and, having had only four runs, can only get better. They went a strong gallop at Ascot and it was a proper Group 1. He travelled good and was very tough.”

Betfred are offering daily specials throughout Glorious Goodwood and the Galway Festival this week, including Fred’s Special Double for each day of the respective meetings.
