I just couldn’t believe Manchester City throwing away a two-goal lead to go out of the Champions League.

Boss Pep Guardiola gambled in Monte Carlo and ended up a loser with that creaking defence letting the club down.

The team he put out against Monaco lacked character and leadership. With experienced Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta and exiled keeper Joe Hart starting I reckon we’d have two rather than one City in the last eight of Europe’s elite competition.

Guardiola has his tactics but I’m no fan of players being too clever, particularly at the back. It is going to be summer of huge changes at the Etihad as even winning the FA Cup and a top four Premier League finish won’t be considered a success by the Abu Dhabi owners considering their enormous investment in the club.

City have drifted to 10/1 at Betfred to win the league, are of course odds on for a top four  finish and 9/4 to win the FA Cup. I expect them to take out their frustrations on Sunday against inconsistent Liverpool in what should be a cracker. City are 10/11 favourites to win with Sergio Aguero, who uncharacteristically was off target in Monaco, the 11/4 favourite to score first.
