Defender Gary Cahill insists Chelsea (8/13 – 2016-17 Premier League outright) will not change their approach ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Tottenham, as they look to continue their winning run.
The west London outfit currently sit six points clear of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table following an incredible winning run.
Chelsea’s 4-2 triumph over Stoke on New Year’s Eve means that they have now won 13 Premier League games in a row.
The Blues last tasted defeat domestically against Arsenal at the end of September and they now turn their attentions to another of north London’s big guns.
Tottenham (13/10 – Top four finish) will host Chelsea on January 4 as they bid to draw level with Arsenal’s tally of 14 straight wins in a single season.
Cahill, who has boosted his chances of earning a place for England at the 2018 World Cup with a string of consistent performances, insists the squad aren’t focused on setting records but are keen to keep picking up points.
Cahill said: “It’s not been something we’ve spoken about. It’s not like all week we’ve been saying ‘we want this record, we want this record’.
“We’ve just kept going and I think that’s the right mentality to have.”
The defender claims that despite coming up against Spurs, who are keen to fight their way back into the top four, they will not change their preparations.
He added: “We’re on a terrific run, but we realise it’s a game everyone’s going to be speaking about.
“It’s not because it’s Tottenham that’s going to change our preparation, the way we go about things.
“It’s going to be exactly the same and we expect exactly the same from each and every player come kick-off time and we’ll be okay.”
Odds subject to change.
