The fifth and final day of another brilliant Punchestown is here, hot on the heels of a famous Friday on which bookies were paying out long after the final race as On The Fringe sent them home delirious, powering to a fifth win in the Champion Hunters Chase.
Today it’s a British-trained horse who might be able to do some damage, with Harry Fry’s Fletchers Flyer well fancied to land the marathon Madra Irish Dog Foods Handicap Chase at 3.10pm.
A runner in a Grade 1 event at this meeting 12 months ago, he’s a fresh horse, unlike chief market rivals Heathfield and Folsom Blue, both of whom appeared in the Scottish National a fortnight ago.
By contrast, Fletchers Flyer has been saved for this and makes plenty of appeal off a mark of 138.
Next up, grab a slice of Slowmotion in the Grade 1 Mares Champion Hurdle at 3.50pm.
Highly impressive at Fairyhouse, she can do what Vroum Vroum Mag and Jer’s Girl did yesterday – take advantage of a generous weight allowance and win!
Her chief opposition comes from Limini, but this might be a bridge too far for her after tough assignments at Cheltenham and Aintree.
Trying to concede 10 pounds looks tough and Slowmotion looks a decent wager at 2/1.
Good luck!
