Sam Twiston-Davies failed to get on the winners board yesterday but he arrives with three each-way chances on Friday, as he gets the leg-up on Connetable, All Yours and Solar Impulse.

Paul Nicholls saddles the current Triumph Hurdle favourite in Zubayr but after Nick Scholfield rode the winner at Kempton on debut, he retains to ride, so Sam settles for the stables supposed ‘second-string’ in Connetable.

Twiston-Davies said: “I had a choice of the

[Nicholls’] others but I’ve settled with Connetable.  He’s a fighter on the track and he’s been doing well at home so I’m happy.

“There may end up being a better horse but at this stage, it may pay to have this bit of experience, so I’m on Connetable.”

His attentions will then turn to the County Hurdle, which looks an extremely hot renewal and he gets the leg-up on All Yours, who has only been seen once this year when fifth behind stablemate Irving in November.

Sam appeared fairly keen on his chances as he said: “He may just paid for winning a Grade 1 at Aintree at the end of the season as he’s fairly high up the handicap – but he’s in good form, will love the drying ground, so he should go well.”

Finally he takes to the track on Solar Impulse in the finale, for which he is currently 33/1. When talking about the chances, he said: “Things have been very tough for him but he has been coming down the handicap.

“Paul Nicholls is a dangerous man when setting one up for a race and that’s what he has done with Solar Impulse, so he could go close.”

“It’s a tough day but Connetable looks my best chance, each-way.”

Sam may not have a ride in the big race this year but he’s sure to be gathered in the weighing room with fellow jockeys, getting set for what is sure to be a thriller.

When Mark Pearson posed the question as to who he would ride if he had the choice, he opted for an Irish raider.

“It’s a tough question, I mean there’ll be plenty of jockeys cheering home Cue Card.

“But you have to look at Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh in their form. Ruby’s on Djakadam and he finished a brilliant second last year, so it looks as though he could take all the beating.”
