Sunday’s meeting at sleepy Southwell produced a startling toteplacepot dividend of £51,326.60 to a £1 stake that ranks at number three on the list of all-time record payouts.

The payout comes less than three months after the record placepot dividend of £91,774.50 was set at Cheltenham in December.

On that occasion there were 1.25 winning units but today’s pool of £91,403.54 was shared between 1.3 successful tickets.

Early indications suggest there are eight individual winners, with the biggest payout going to a Betfred customer who pocketed £15,397.98 after winning the bet to a 30p stake.

totepool spokesman Andrew Griffiths said: “It’s been an incredible few months for the toteplacepot with today’s huge dividend coming hot on the heels of the record £91,000 payout at Cheltenham in December.”

“It shows once more you don’t even need to back a winner to land a fortune with the tote and hats off to the eight winners who claimed a piece of the action.”
