Tom Lawrence is hoping to continue to impress in his first start for Wales against Holland (Wales 3/1, Holland 12/5, Draw 19/20 – Match Result) in Cardiff on Friday as he bids to secure a place in next summer’s Euro 2016 squad.

The 21-year-old striker, who is currently impressing on loan at Championship side Blackburn Rovers from Premier League high-fliers Leicester City, secured his first cap when he came off the bench in last month’s 2-0 win against Andorra which came after the Welsh had already qualified for the European Championships – their first major tournament in 58 years.

The mission for the players in the squad is to make sure they are involved when coach Chris Coleman picks his squad for Euro 2016 (Wales 50/1 Outright) in France and Lawrence is looking to stake his claim.

The Welsh go up against the Dutch this week in a friendly clash, devoid of star man Gareth Bale, while Hal Robson-Kanu, Aaron Ramsey and Sam Vokes are also missing due to injury.

Therefore Lawrence is likely to get the nod and he intends to grasp the opportunity with both hands.

He said: “If the manager decides to pick me I’ll be ready to put on a shirt and give my all for the team.

“Hopefully I can deliver if I am picked.

“I felt my performance against Andorra was good and players in this squad have shown before they can step in and do well when others are injured.

“Making the squad for France is always in the back of your mind, it would be massive for me and my family.

“You’ve just got to perform as well as you can for your club and hopefully you’ll be in contention for France.”
