With just days to go before the start of the new season, it’s time for the annual curtain-raiser at Wembley!
Its last year’s champions against last year’s Cup winners, as Chelsea take on Arsenal for the first trophy of the season in the Community Shield. Both sides are looking to showcase their new talent, and it’s a first chance to see Petr Cech in action against his old club!
PRE-SEASON FORM GUIDE
CHELSEAL.D.D. (Won the two draws on pens.)
Arsenal look in good touch after winning the Emirates Cup last week and are 7/4 to get the win in the national stadium. The draw sits at a cheeky 12/5, but what about Chelsea to start things off with a bang at 6/4!
The pre-season form would suggest that Arsenal are the strongest, and that gives us a good reason to back them going into the new season. However, the recent head-to-heads have got us fancying the Chelsea victory because the Gunners haven’t got the better of them in the last eight meetings. Wenger is also yet to beat Mourinho in the previous 13 matches they have played against each other, so a win for the Blues could be the only option!
However, these early season matches tend to bring plenty of goals and it’s hard to imagine a situation where these two sides won’t get on the score sheet. They should both be ready to prove their new attacking talent so expect there to be some goals at Wembley on Sunday. 8/11 for both teams to score is an absolute must-back, but over 2.5 goals looks well worth a go at 10/11. Arsenal were beaten 6-0 by Chelsea a few years ago, so why not be adventurous and have a flutter on over 5.5 goals in the game at a juicy 11/1!
Can Costa grab the first goal of the season?
But plenty of goals means plenty of goal scorers, and with our Double Delight and Hat-trick Heaven offer you can find yourself a big money spinner. Diego Costa hit a bagful for the Blues last season and looks a good place to start in the first goalscorer market. He’s 9/2 to fire home the first this weekend and looks more likely than Radamel Falcao at 11/2.
Arsenal might have to be quick out the blocks before Chelsea park their big blue bus, so backing Theo Walcott could be worth a chance at 13/2. Olivier Giroud also knows how to find the net and should be close to landing the first goal with an excellent 11/2 price tag. That just about guides you through our main markets for Sunday’s big match, so keep your eyes on the blog for even more betting tips on the 2015 Football Season!
