Claressa Shields vs Maricela Cornejo Predictions

  • Claressa Shields to win on Points – 1/3

The GWOAT of boxing, Claressa Shields, returns home to fight in Detroit Michigan on Sunday morning and has had the disturbance of a last minute change of opponent.

Original opponent Hanna Gabriels failed a VADA test on May 2nd and has been replaced by no 1 ranked contender Maricela Cornejo.

We last saw Shields, when she comprehensively outboxed Savannah Marshall to cement her legacy as the best female boxer of all time.

A resident of nearby Flint, the 28-year-old was adamant her next fight would be a homecoming and that’s exactly what she will get in Detroit, in front of as fervent home support.

‘La Diva’ pulled out of her scheduled fight, to step in to take this massive fight against Shields and will see this as a massive opportunity to shock the world and make herself a household name.

For Shields, the next fight on the horizon, could well be a massive rematch here in the states against Marshall, should she herself get past Franchon Crews.

Where and when is the fight taking place?

The fight is happening at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit Michigan, in the early hours of Sunday, Jun 4th and will be broadcast live and exclusively on DAZN in the UK. The event is a Salita Promotions card.  The show will start at around midnight, with the main ring walk taking place at around 4am UK time.

Who’s the favourite?

Shields is a massive 1/50 favourite , with Cornejo the outsider at 14/1.  the draw is available at 20/1.

What’s been said?

Shields:

“I’m truly blessed to be able to fight at the Little Caesar’s Arena, here in Michigan and to fight in front of 15,000 of my own fans.

Cornejo is a crafty fighter, shes a boxer and she will try and take it long to win the fight.

I don’t think Marshall will beat Franchon Crews and if she does, she will have to face me at 160 lbs again

I’m the greatest woman boxer of all time, I’m the pound for pound greatest”

Cornejo:

“This was a lifetime opportunity, so I had no issues pulling out of my other fight

I was ready to fight, I had to make a couple of changes as I was due to fight a southpaw

For those who want to make some money, go out and put your money on me, I’m happy to be the underdog

I win and I see a knockout”

Claressa Shields to win on Points – 1/3

This looks a pretty simple prediction as there looks to be little value elsewhere on this fight.

Shields is simply too good for Cornejo, who has lost three of her last five fights and looks out of her class here.

‘La Diva’ talks a good game but she will likely lose most rounds here and with Shields not a KO artist, this one should go the distance.
