Partick Thistle travel to Somerset Park for the second leg of their Scottish Premiership playoff semi-final with a commanding 3-0 advantage over Ayr United, and Thistle’s superiority should tell once more.
Partick have been flying since manager Kris Doolan took to the Firhill dugout, and it’s only one defeat in 16 matches for the Jags. Thistle may well have been challenging for automatic promotion had Doolan enjoyed a full season at the helm in Maryhill. Still, Partick should at least give themselves a shot at the SPL with a victory in Ayrshire.
Thistle are bidding to become the first team to win three Scottish playoff ties, and a contest against one of Dundee United, Ross County or Kilmarnock could await.

Partick Thistle midfielder Stuart Bannigan is likely to miss out after picking up an injury in the first leg of the playoff quarter-finals, but Doolan has no further injury concerns to deal with.

Ayr look to face a tough task to turn this tie in their favour, and the Honest Men are likely to be left vulnerable as they push forward in an attempt to square the contest.
Lee Bullen has built a solid side, but Ayr have been struggling for goals, which looks like their undoing.
The Honest Men found the net only five times in their final six games of the season, and they, of course, drew a blank in Glasgow last week.

Ayr look to have left themselves with too much to do, they are up against a free-scoring Thistle side, who are playing their best football of the season, and it’s hard to see how they don’t get picked off by Partick at Somerset Park.
Doolan’s side hammered seven goals past Queen’s Park in the quarter-finals of the playoffs, and that followed that free-scoring performance by scoring three times in the first leg of the semi-final at Firhill. The Maryhill men scored two at Raith, two at Hamilton and five at Cove in the final few weeks of the Scottish Championship regular season, and Doolan has insisted that his side will not sit back at Somerset Park.
