Gerwyn Price – 2.5 Hcp – 5/6

Finals night means a longer format than the usual weekly matches we are used to, with the semi finals played over a maximum of 19 legs.

We kick off with first against fourth and an all-Welsh affair between Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton.

‘The Ferret’ has shown much improved form over recent weeks, after a torrid start to the Premier League campaign that saw him fighting Peter Wright for bottom of the table.

Two back to back wins, as well as progressing through his quarter final most weeks, saw Clayton sneak past Nathan Aspinall for the fourth playoff spot.

Meanwhile, ‘The Iceman’ has ben consistently good throughout and three nightly wins saw him take top spot on week 12, which he has never relinquished since.

I would have given Jonny a chance against any other thrower but he has a shocking record against Price, losing all five of their last five matches, with a record of 30 legs to 12.

Michael Smith to win – 10/11

The second semi final is a battle of the Michaels – Smith and van Gerwyn.

This tournament looked like another procession for ‘MVG’ after week six, with the Green Machine winning three weeks on the trot and sat clear at the top of the table.

However, van Gerwyn has looked bang out of form since, reaching just a solitary final in ten more weeks of action, to finish down in third.

‘Bully Boy’ had looked devoid of his usual confidence early in the tournament, following the best year of his life, winning his first ranking event and then the World Championship.

Smith turned things round from week 13 onwards, also winning three nightly awards on the spin, to climb up to second place in the league.

With Mighty Mike struggling and the St Helens man peaking, I can only see this fight going one way.

Premier League winner: Gerwyn Price – 6/4

Price has probably had the hardest year of his career, being booed relentlessly by most crowds and then comically wearing ear defenders at the World Championships in January.

On Thursday night, however, he can gain redemption, with victory in the Premier League for the first time ever.

I expect him to beat Clayton comfortably and then just edge Michael Smith in the final.
