Five meetings across Britain and Ireland make up the midweek racing quota, with jumps cards at Warwick and Southwell (evening) joining the action on the Flat at Yarmouth, Ayr and Kempton (evening, AW).
The feature contest comes at Ayr via the Fillies’ And Mares’ Listed Rothesay Stakes and we’ve got a selection from there amongst our Wednesday fancies.
Selections
- Ayr 3.30 – Al Husn @ 11/10
- Yarmouth 5.45 – Revolutionary Man @ 10/3
- Southwell 5.50 – Lively Citizen @ 11/10
Tip 1
Roger Varian likes to target the Rothesay Stakes at Ayr, with the trainer seeking to bag a third win in the race in seven years when he saddles AL HUSN (11/10) in this afternoon’s feature at the Scottish layout.
The Dubawi filly was a Group 2 runner-up 17 days ago at Newmarket and should find this test appreciably easier.
She bumped into a very easy winner there in the shape of Via Sistina for trainer George Boughey as she turned the Dahlia Stakes into a procession.
That took Al Husn’s career figures to 7411112 and she looks capable of making her mark in this grade. She’s on the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder for today’s action and looks set to justify that berth under Jim Crowley in the Shadwell silks.
Tip 2
A first turf success for REVOLUTIONARY MAN (10/3) may beckon in the closing contest at Yarmouth this Wednesday afternoon.
Billy Loughnane will have a two-hour wait before he partners this last-time-out Lingfield scorer for Robyn Brisland, with the apprentice rider of the year to date having rides in three of the opening four races on the card before completing his book with this gelding.
The partnership won at Lingfield early this month, comfortable 7f winners on their first outing together. Though he’s 0-9 previously on turf, Revolutionary Man has shaped well on grass when getting quick ground and he should be at home on the forecast good to firm going now.
He races from a 10lb lower mark back in this sphere and can notch his maiden turf win.
Tip 3
David Jeffreys saw LIVELY CITIZEN (11/10) making the perfect start over fences as he won at Perth (2m, good) a week ago.
He got there quite snugly to win by three-parts of a length and looks well treated under his 7lb penalty now.
He was useful over hurdles, winning three times and placing second in the 2022 Imperial Cup at Sandown. He began life as a chaser off a lowly mark of 107 and will likely rate higher than this adjusted mark before long.
He rises in trip now and while not quite as effective over 2m4f in his hurdles career, he was second over this distance around here in one previous appearance and Southwell should be a track where he can be effective at this trip.
