Just the one fancy for me at Sandown on Thursday evening – and that’s BLUE STORM for the National Stakes (Listed) (2yo) (5f) at 6.42.
Of the ten set to go to post, all but one won last time out and seven of them are 1-1 so far in their careers, so it’s fair to say this looks a strong renewal.
One of those unbeaten juveniles is James Tate’s son of Blue Point, who won a red-hot novice event at Newmarket in the middle of April. That form looks exceptionally strong with the second, third, fourth AND fifth winning next time out – and convincingly, too.
Hugo Palmer’s Hackman, who was third at HQ that day, won at Chester a couple of weeks ago and I wouldn’t put anyone off backing him each-way here, but frankly I struggle to make a case for him beating Blue Storm.
Elite Status, On Point, Dapper Valley and World Of Darcy are obvious dangers and certainly fall into the ‘could be anything’ bracket, but at this stage none of their form has as much substance as that on offer from the selection.
Another big positive for the latter is the form of connections. Tate is operating at a 27% strike rate with 3 winners from his last 11 runners – while jockey Neil Callan has ridden 6 winners from his last 26 rides (23%).
