Kempton returns in its regular Wednesday evening slot and there’s an interesting eight-race card at the Sunbury venue.

There are three informative novice events, sandwiched between five handicaps, and highlighted by a 1m4f handicap, which serves as a London Middle Distance Series Qualifier.

Kempton Park Betting Tips:

  • 17:05 – Larrsen @ 7/2
  • 20:10 – Sea King @ 4/1
  • 20:40 – Meisterzinger @ 3/1

17:05 – Larrsen @ 7/2

Larrsen was well-backed ahead of opening his account at Bath at the start of the month and the Gary Moore-trained colt can score again at Kempton.

The form of that Bath victory is nothing exceptional, but the runner-up Threebars has since finished second again at the Lansdown Hill venue.

Larrsen was slowly away and stumbled at the start, but he still managed to score a cosy success, under tonight’s rider Tom Quelley, and the three-year-old also seemed to relish the step up to a mile.

Larrsen took a fairly keen hold at Bath, suggesting there’s an engine above a 58 rating lurking, but he did settle better than on his previous five racecourse appearances, and there appears to be plenty of pace on this evening, which should suit Moore’s charge.

20:10 – Sea King @ 4/1

Sea King can go well for the red-hot Sir Mark Prescott in the one-and-a-half mile handicap. The son of Sea The Stars finished down the field in the competitive Old Rowley Cup handicap at Newmarket when last seen, but that was a solid run and there are reasons to think that the Prescott-trained runner can show up well at Kempton.

Sea King has been off the track for 229 days, but his finishing positions when returning off a break of more than 65 days read 3,1,4, and the four-year-old actually passed the post in second on the most recent of those figures, before being demoted two places.

An impressive victory at Doncaster, over this trip, came after a 221-day absence and Sea King also has form on artificial surfaces having won comfortably at Newcastle in the past.

The four-year-old was gelded at the back end of last season, and his improvement may have been hidden by an errant run at Haydock and a step-up in class at Newmarket. Take Sea King to sail to victory for his in-form trainer.

20:40 – Meisterzinger @ 3/1

Meisterzinger goes in the 20:40 for trainer Mark Usher and the five-year-old can get back to winning ways at his favoured Kempton Park.

Meisterzinger has scored twice at the Sunbury track over 1m3f and 1m4f trips this year and Usher’s charge appears to be well-suited to the polytrack surface.

The five-year-old travelled strongly under Danny Muscutt, before easily moving into contention and running out a comfortable winner on his last visit to Kempton.

Meisterzinger didn’t prove anywhere near as effective on the turf at Bath last time out, but that will have tuned him up nicely for tonight’s return to Kempton and he looks far better judged on his efforts in Surrey.
