There are five meetings taking place across the UK on Wednesday and our focus heads north of the border for Ayr’s seven-race card, which runs from 14:20 until 17:30.
The going is set to be Good, Good to firm in places at the Scottish track and it should be another fantastic afternoon of flat racing.
Ayr Betting Tips:
14:55 – Freedom Flyer @ 11/8
Our first selection comes in the second race on the card – the Dead Man’s Finger Handicap at 14:55 – and FREEDOM FLYER is backed to go one better than the runners-up effort at this track last time out on May 8.
Ruth Carr’s charge has been in fine form this year and was seen scoring at Thirsk in April in a race that was just one furlong shy of today’s 6f distance – that victory coming after a solid second at Southwell in March.
A third at Wolverhampton and a fourth at Catterick preceded the recent second at Ayr and there is every chance the consistent six-year-old can pick up a second victory of 2023.
17:00 – Innse Gall @ 11/2
A field of eight are scheduled to do battle in the penultimate race at 17:00 – a Handicap over 1m 2f – and preference here is for INNSE GALL to add a course and distance victory to his CV.
Iain Jardine’s gelding picked up a C&D win back in August 2021 and there have been two more successes since Ayr, firstly getting up at Carlisle in August last year over 1m 3f 39yd before then landing at Ripon later that month.
All three victories have come on either good or good to firm ground, so the forecast conditions should suit, while Innse Gall also arrives here off the back of a positive fifth in a 13-runner Handicap at Haydock.
17:30 – Shine On Brendan @ 9/2
Rounding off the action in Ayr is the Guinness Apprentice Handicap at 17:30 over 1m and the selection here is SHINE ON BRENDAN, who has had a couple of near-misses of late and can finally get back to winning ways on Wednesday.
The six-year-old was runner-up at this track on May 4 before recording the same result at Hamilton Park three days later. Having been given a few weeks off since that latest outing, Jim Goldie’s charge is expected to play a prominent role again.
Shine On Brendan is also a C&D winner, that triumph one of five wins in 2022, and it would be no surprise to see him given another a good go by jockey Archie Young.
