Betfred’s Owen McMahon shares a couple of tips for the action at Yarmouth on Wednesday.

One of the most competitive races on the card is the 0-70 handicap (1m2f) at 2.35, for which 11 go to post – and the one I’m keen on is HOTSPUR HARRY for Robert Eddery.
This six-year-old son of Zoffany is, as many horses who operate at this level are, an inconsistent type, but he looks to be in career best form right now so is worth chancing.
What makes him a particularly attractive proposition on Wednesday afternoon is that he runs off a mark of 68, five pounds lower than his all-weather rating, despite the fact that his form on both surfaces is very similar. Add the 7lb claim of George Eddery and the selection is essentially running off 61, which is an an all-time low.
A lot depends on whether the horse is on a going day, but he has plenty – conditions included – in his favour and will hopefully prove a smashing price in hindsight.
Continuing the unintentional football theme, it’s SPANISH MANE for me in the 0-60 handicap over 1m at 5.45.
As mentioned earlier, it’s rare to find consistency at this level but Julia Feilden’s eight-year has been somewhat of an exception to the rule over the last few seasons. She’s been in and around her current mark of 61 since September 2020 and has only failed to run to form a handful of times since.
The daughter of Savana Grey is a bit of a Yarmouth specialist having ran here 22 times and she acts well on good to firm ground. The step back up to a mile is a small concern, but she has several wins over that distance so it’s not a major one.
Clearly, there’s no juice in her mark, but running to form is worth its weight in gold at this level and if she can do so in these ideal conditions, I suspect she’ll go very close indeed.
