A busy start to the racing week with six meetings across Britain and Ireland on Monday as they race at Ffos Las and Market Rasen over jumps alongside Flat meetings from Carlisle, Redcar, Roscommon and Windsor.

Amongst our fancies this Monday is a last-time-out scorer for Kevin Ryan that looks to hold sound claims of going in once more at Carlisle.

Selections

  • Carlisle 16:10 – Leap Year Lad @ 3/1
  • Ffos Las 15:50 – Karannelle @ 10/1
  • Windsor 19:35 – Lexington Knight @ 15/2

Tip 1

LEAP YEAR LAD (3/1) showed bits of promise as a juvenile last season for Ryan but has really come forward this spring.

He was unfortunate in mile all-weather starts at Newcastle and Southwell in March/April and, after failing to show his best, returned to turf with a third at Redcar last month and made amends with a win at Hamilton over the extended-mile 15 days ago.

Shane Gray’s mount was towards the business end throughout, led with two-furlongs to run and held on for a fairly comfortable success. Runner-up Arkenstar has put a positive spin on that form by scoring back at the Scottish venue on Friday evening.

A 3lb rise in the ratings looks fair now for Leap Year Lad and his yard are operating at a healthy strike-rate over the last 14 days. He’s on the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder for today’s action and should justify his billing.

Tip 2

Jumps action this afternoon is from Ffos Las and the Welsh Cottage Cakes Handicap Hurdle should offer the mare KARANNELLE (10/1) a chance to build on a pleasing seasonal bow seven days ago.

She posted wins at Newton Abbot (2m1f, good) and Market Rasen (2m½f, good) last July for trainer David Rees and was mostly very consistent afterwards in four further runs up until late August.

The daughter of Nathaniel was a nine-race maiden in Ireland for Johnny Murtagh and Jessica Harrington before struggling in her first season as a jumper for this handler.

She has found her niche in the last two campaigns as a summer performer and there’s no reason not to believe she can pay her own way again this term. She finished fourth last week under a typically patient ride and, from the same mark, can go well today with that pipe-opener behind her.

Tip 3

The Richard Hannon-trained LEXINGTON KNIGHT (15/2) has good memories of Windsor having won over C&D on his only previous visit here in June 2021.

He was rated 10lb higher at that point and his recent form on synthetic surfaces ensures he is well worth a close look now.

He was consistent on the Tapeta at Wolverhampton in five runs earlier in the year and, on his most recent start, rallied for a close third having missed the break and done himself no favours.

Sean Levey returns in the plate for this evening’s visit to Windsor and they should be in the firing line.
