Racing on Thursday in the UK and Ireland comes from Hexham, Limerick, Naas, Taunton, Warwick and Wolverhampton, on what is a busy day of action.

Our fancies include a Fontwell winner that is going up in distance at Taunton, and he can have more success to defy his 7lb rise in the ratings.

Selections

  • Taunton 14:40 – Art Decco @ 2/1
  • Warwick 15:35 – Lac De Constance @ 11/2
  • Hexham 15:55 – Lissen To The Lady @ 13/8

Tip 1

ART DECCO (2/1) broke his maiden at Fontwell (2m5½f) on his fourth appearance over fences, building on some solid form to finally land the top prize. After hitting the front of the field two out, he never looked back, eventually scoring by seven lengths.

Robert Walford’s runner has shown much more form over fences this season than he did as a hurdler and the seven-year-old remains open to improvement, especially over this longer distance which should suit him.

The Fontwell winner features on the Betfred Betfinder this afternoon as one of the most Napped selections. He has been put up 7lb by the handicapper, but that is unlikely to be enough to stop him from replicating his success.

Tip 2

Dan Skelton is the leading trainer at Warwick this season with 11 winners and he could have more success in the feature on their card this afternoon.

LAC DE CONSTANCE (11/2) showed what he was capable of when winning on his chase debut at Kempton by a large margin earlier in the season. He has not been able to add to his account since then, but he has been running a higher level.

The seven-year-old finished his hurdles campaign with a 100 percent record. He won all three of his races, including a Listed contest at Exeter (2m½f), and there is likely to be more to come from this horse over fences.

The handicapper has put the Lodge Hill runner down 3lb for his latest defeat at Sandown, and this is a much easier race than he has been faced with this season, even with the top weight he needs to carry. A tongue-tie is being applied for the first time, and that could also help him find some improvement.

Tip 3

With heavy in the going description, conditions are set to be testing at Hexham this afternoon, but that will suit LISSEN TO THE LADY (13/8). She prevailed over this C&D on heavy ground earlier this month.

The nine-year-old mare was held up at the back of the field for most of the contest, but as her rivals struggled in the closing stages, she stayed on better than any of the runners that day.

The five-time hurdles winner has gone up 4lb to a mark of 97 for that win. However, this remains a long way below her peak rating, so it is still workable. She looks like the one they all have to beat in this small field at the North East venue.
