There’s plenty of action to look forward to on Thursday afternoon, including a seven-race card up at Hexham.

With plenty of rain in Northumberland over recent days and leading into the weekend, the going for Thursday is set to be heavy, soft in places ahead of the opening race of the day at 13:35 in the Cazoo Maiden Hurdle.

We have picked out four selections from the day’s card at Hexham, while there are also meetings to take in from Taunton, Limerick, Warwick, Naas and Wolverhampton on a bumper day of racing action.

13:35 – Leading Force @ 6/4

After finishing as a runner-up in his last three races, connections of LEADING FORCE will hope he can finally go one better when he features in the Cazoo Maiden Hurdle at 13:35.

In going close at Musselburgh and twice as a runner-up at Newcastle, Leading Force has shown he can compete on soft ground and could be able to chalk up a first win since a point-to-point success at Belclare in March last year.

14:45 – Beat Box @ 11/2

Beat Box will be hoping to have shaken off the cobwebs at Carlisle earlier this month as he prepares for the Cazoo Search Drive Smile Handicap Hurdle at 14:45.

The seven-year-old disappointed with a seventh-place finish in Cumbria after a 63-day layoff but should give a better account of himself this time around.

With a win and two runners-up spots in the three races preceding that Carlisle run, Beat Box has already shown signs he has the quality to shine at Hexham on Thursday.

Horse Racing Odds

15:20 – Twoshotsoftequila @ 9/4

Twoshotsoftequila has demonstrated steady progress in recent outings and is set to be a contender in the 15:20 at Hexham.

Finishing fourth at Newcastle in December, Twoshotsoftequila went on to finish third and second in back-to-back outings at Sedgefield before landing a win last time out at Doncaster.

Clearly a horse on the rise, the Rebecca Menzies-trained runner has the ability to land a third career win when he goes at Hexham.

16:30 – Pileup @ 13/8

Another runner with promising form heading to Hexham is the Mark Walford-trained Pileup, who features in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap Chase at 16:30.

After finishing second at Wetherby last month, connections had to settle for another runner-up spot at Market Rasen last time out.

In his third race of the season, it could be third time lucky for Walford’s charge, with jockey Jamie Hamilton set to be in the saddle for this one.
