A fairly sedate start to the racing week with just a trio of UK meetings on Monday, where afternoon jumps fare comes from Wincanton and they are joined by the all-weather meetings at Lingfield and, later, Wolverhampton’s evening meeting.
Our Monday fancies including a fast-improving chaser looking to make it 3-3 when he returns to Wincanton.
Selections
- Wincanton 2.30 – Calgary Tiger @ 6/4
- Lingfield 3.15 – Ermesinde @ 6/5
- Wolverhampton 7.00 – Glorious Angel @ 9/1
Tip 1
CALGARY TIGER (6/4) contested the Kingwell Hurdle won by Goshen at this track in February 2021 and was not sighted again for almost two-years afterwards.
When he did reappear here early last month to commence his chasing career, odds of 50/1 suggested that expectations were limited but he came out and won with a pair of next-time-out winners behind in third and fourth.
Trainer William De Best-Turner stuck with claiming rider Ben Ffrench-Davis next time at Newbury and they duly made it 2-2 in this code with a decisive success, easing down late in the piece.
Again, that form has been franked, third home Gallic Geordie a scorer since at Wetherby and the fourth, Yes Indeed, only short-headed into second back at Newbury since.
There should be plenty more in the locker and his latest ratings-rise may not prevent Calgary Tiger justifying his spot on the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder for today’s racing action by winning this CRS And Adams Morey Handicap Chase.
Tip 2
Impressive debut C&D winner ERMESINDE (6/5) should be good enough to protect her unbeaten record over C&D despite a penalty.
Kevin Philippart De Foy’s daughter of Golden Horn defied well-backed favourite Latin Verse to win here last month, despite the jolly getting a perfect gap up the running rail as they spun off the final bend.
That wasn’t enough to see off the smart-looking newcomer, who was always doing enough once getting to the front and won by a tidy length at the finish.
The runner-up came out and scored with plenty in hand next time and that initial form looks solid, ensuring this filly is another to be put forward from the Most Napped table on the Betfred Betfinder today.
While penalised here, the presence of Benoit De La Sayette in the saddle means that burden is offset by 3lb and they can take this Fillies’ Novice at the primary expense of more exposed pair Flash Bardot and Rechercher.
Tip 3
Just seven go to post for the It’s Time To Turn To TalkSport Fillies’ Handicap (7.00) seven furlongs this evening at Wolverhampton but it’s a Betfred Extra Place Race (three places) and that may means there’s some value in siding with GLORIOUS ANGEL (9/1) for trainer Grant Tuer.
The daughter of Cotai Glory enjoyed a versatile January treble at Southwell and Newcastle, winning over three different trips – from 5f-7f.
She’s been held in three runs since, though the latest of those saw her far from disgraced in a Listed race in Deauville this month. She’s now back within 1lb of her most recent win-mark and is reunited with Billy Loughnane for the first time since that score at Newcastle in January. They have claims on the generous terms offered here.
