There could be eight of the best at Wincanton on Monday as their octet of afternoon contests over the jumps runs from 13:30 to 17:00.
We’ve picked out a trio of exciting sorts to look out for in Somerset, starting in the opener with a gelding who has been knocking at the door in his last three starts.
Wincanton Betting Tips
13:30 – Brentford Hope @ 1/3
It feels only a matter of time before BRENTFORD HOPE (1/3) gets the nod again and the opening Maiden Hurdle looks a real chance to do so.
The six-year-old has been second on his last three starts, most recently when edged on Boxing Day at Wetherby by Dancewiththewind, who has subsequently triumphed again at Kelso.
Brentford Hope won on three of his first seven starts and has repeatedly come close in his 11 since.
Neither a bit of a break nor a slight drop back to 1m7f should be overly penal in trying to overcome Ventara (17/2), who returns after falling on his first start earlier in the month at Taunton.
Meanwhile, Bryony Frost’s booking will promote interest in Asian Spice (12/1), who she piloted to a recent second at Exeter.
15:30 – Legendary Rhythm @ 15/8
LEGENDARY RHYTHM (15/8) left them all in her wake during February’s three-length win at Leicester and should again have too much for the reopposing Auditoria (9/4).
The latter has since triumphed at Taunton but has landed a 7lb penalty for that success, which further clears the route to potential success for Tom Symonds’ mare.
She really was good at Leicester but may also have to weather a challenge from Police Academy (7/2), who was second at Fontwell on her chasing debut for trainer Oliver Sherwood.
16:30 – Just Go For It @ 7/1
JUST GO FOR IT (7/1) was a Wincanton winner on her penultimate start over Monday’s 2m5½f trip on March 1 and a fourth place at Taunton on March 13 is not enough to dim enthusiasm.
The 10-year-old continues alongside Sean Houlihan and after running out of steam over 3m in Somerset, the drop back in trip should suit.
There are other contenders to reckon with, including Watchoutitscookie (7/2), who again teams up with Tom Buckley in search of a second win at this course in as many starts for Nigel Hawke. That result was somewhat out of the blue and connections will hope it was not a fluke.
Meanwhile, The Bold Thady (11/4) has been knocking on the door for his maiden after second places at Exeter and Taunton but may still be short of what is required to best Just Go For It.
