Italy will be seeking to bounce back from defeat against England when they take on Malta on Sunday (19:45) in the second game of their Euro 2024 qualification campaign. We’ve previewed this game and provided you with some suggested best bets for the occasion.

Malta vs Italy Tips

  • Italy to win to nil @ 1/2
  • Gianluca Scamacca to score anytime @ 11/10

Italy (1/12) suffered a 2-1 defeat against England on Thursday night, and the Azzurri will be eager to bounce back in style in a game that they are unsurprisingly overwhelming favourites.

It marked the Italians first defeat in Euro qualifying since 2007, and Roberto Mancini will be looking at this game as a chance to rack up the goals and put a smile back on the faces of the supporters.

Malta (18/1) have never previously qualified for any major international tournament and are considering the big underdogs of Group C. Since 1972, Malta have played 106 Euro qualifying matches, and they have picked up just four wins.

Michele Marcolini’s side are one of the lowest-ranked teams in the world, but they do come into qualification this time around in good shape. They enjoyed an excellent Nations League campaign last year, winning two of the four matches that they played.

Team News

Ciro Immobile is currently injured, so it looks as though Gianluca Scamacca could take his place in the starting XI.

Meanwhile, Teddy Teuma will be the main source of inspiration in the Malta side, after his impressive performances for his club side, Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League recently.

Marcolini will also have to make do without Enrico Pepe at the back.

Bet on Malta vs Italy with Betfred Here

Italy to win to nil @ 1/2

Italy have a dominant record against Malta, claiming victories in all eight previous meetings.

Malta has scored just twice over that period, with Italy claiming victory to nil in each of the previous four meetings. The last meeting between the nations came back in September 2015, with Italy claiming a 1-0 success in Rome.

It’s incredibly hard to overlook the Azzurri for this match, and backing them to win to nil looks good value to me.

Gianluca Scamacca to score anytime @ 11/10

With Ciro Immobile injured, it looks like Gianluca Scamacca could replace him in the starting XI on Sunday.

The West Ham United striker has endured a tough season up until this point in the Premier League, scoring just three goals in 16 appearances, so getting on the scoresheet here could be a huge confidence boost to all concerned.

Scamacca is yet to score for the national team but you feel as though he won’t have a better chance to against a side as low-ranked as Malta.
