A decent eight-race card gives punters something to look forward to at Chepstow on Thursday, with them heading out over the jumps between 13:25 and 17:25.

There are plenty of lively sorts to get excited about, with connections hoping for a fifth-straight win for Barrier Peaks, while there is a speedy return for recent winner Big Blue Moon in the opener.

A maiden could also call for Patient Owner, whose steady progress in chasing deserves the success that could come in the 16:20.

That race is one of four on the card that feature Betfred’s Extra Place offer, with the 14:35, 15:10 and 15:45 also carrying the promotion.

Chepstow Racing Tips:

  • 13:25 Chepstow – Big Blue Moon @ 5/4
  • 15:45 – Barrier Peaks @ 2/1
  • 16:20 – Patient Owner @ 7/2

13:25 – Big Blue Moon @ 5/4

After winning on his handicap debut at Carlisle as recently as March 19, connections are clearly keen to strike while the iron is hot in pursuit of a second career victory.

Having debuted at Chepstow in November, the gelding returned here for a placing in February, albeit 40 lengths back by Olly Murphy’s Rambo T when he failed to stay on.

He should, though, know the course well and a drop in trip to just north of two miles suited at Carlisle and Tom Lacey is clearly keen to get him back in.

Cameron Iles takes over the ride and negates the penalty incurred for his victory in Cumbria.

His biggest threat could come from another recent winner, Brown Bullet, who scored at Plumpton on Tuesday.

Karakoram won this race 12 months ago but carries a 7lb penalty and was most recently seen winning over 3m at Taunton on March 13.

However, dropping a mile seems significant and Big Blue Moon may have the turn of foot to see off his rivals.

15:45 – Barrier Peaks @ 2/1

Barrier Peaks has put a fine run of results together, winning his last four outings, with two successes at Uttoxeter and a score each at Market Rasen and Exeter.

Thursday’s 2m3½f is a touch shorter than those recent successes but is nothing to worry about. Meanwhile, his 8lb rise from that most recent win at Uttoxeter in February is not insurmountable.

It is also nice to see Fergus Gillard continuing in the plate and they look to be forming a nice partnership for David Pipe.

Competition could come from Weaver’s Answer and Immortal Flame, who finished second here in October and could benefit from a return to Monmouthshire.

Both carry claims but Barrier Peaks is the standout candidate in this contest.

16:20 – Patient Owner @ 7/2

Chasing seems to suit Patient Owner, with two placed efforts over similar to Thursday’s 2m7½f suggesting he is getting close to getting a first career win.

Imperial Joe showed the same type of progression ahead of his recent Taunton win, while Ballybreen can be another contender from down in the weights.

However, there is a good feeling about Patient Owner, who has shown both good stamina and jumping on his recent outings.
