Racing on Sunday in the UK comes from Carlisle and Chepstow with seven-race jump cards to look forward to from both of those meetings.
Our fancies include a selection at Carlisle for the pairing of Champion Jockey Brian Hughes and trainer Donald McCain. They have a lot of success together at the northern tracks and it could be another good afternoon for the duo today.
Selections
- Chepstow 14:05 – Skinflint @ 7/2
- Carlisle 14:25 – Haveanothergoflo @ 2/1
- Chepstow 15:15 – Grivetana @ 7/2
Tip 1
SKINFLINT (7/2) broke his maiden under Rules over this C&D on his last outing in what was a smart performance. He was always prominent at the front end of the field in that contest, before stretching away for a 10-length success in the home straight.
Prior to that victory last month, Henry Oliver’s runner had hit the frame on all six of his appearances over fences. He has been consistently faring well without getting his nose in front. Connections opted to apply cheekpieces for the first time and they may just have helped the horse keep his focus on the task at hand.
With the confidence of his victory here on his latest outing, there could be much more to come from the 11-year-old chaser. He features on the Betfred Betfinder as one of the most Napped selections this afternoon as he bids to defy his 10lb rise in the ratings.
Tip 2
Points winner HAVEANOTHERGOFLO (2/1) is having his third appearance under Rules today and his connections will be hoping he can take another step forward when he appears in the second race on the card at Carlisle.
The novice hurdler did not jump very well on his debut at Bangor last December when finishing fourth of six runners. However, he was much better last time out at Ayr where he finished third over their extended 2m4f trip. Donald McCain’s runner was unfortunate to bump into two smart horses that day. The runner-up has come out and won since then.
This race does not look particularly strong, so if the six-year-old builds on what he has shown so far under the hands of Champion Jockey Brian Hughes, he has a great chance of recording his first success under Rules.
Tip 3
Champion Trainer Paul Nicholls has two runners at Chepstow this afternoon and his best chance of having a winner at the Welsh Racecourse is with GRIVETANA (7/2) in the 15:15, a handicap hurdle for mares.
The five-year-old filly has yet to prevail in four starts this season, but she did score at this course 12 months ago. She appeared to enjoy it around this venue, as she came out on top by just under five lengths.
Although she has not been able to add to her tally this season, there have been some good performances. She finished second in a Grade Three contest at Newbury back in November. The Ditcheat runner is now going up in distance and this stiffer test could work in her favour.
