The final race on Friday – and of the entire 2023 Cheltenham Festival – is the Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle (5.30).

Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle 2023 Tips

  • Selection: COOL SURVIVOR @ 5/1

Like all handicaps at the Festival, the Martin Pipe is a devil to solve. Plot jobs galore.

However, sometimes there’s one or two that just look obviously well-handicapped – and for me, one of them is Cool Survivor for Gordon Elliott.

The six-year-old has form behind Hiddenvalley Lake, who is my tip for the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle earlier on the card, and last time out in G1 company at the Dublin Racing Festival behind the likes of Good Land, who ran creditably in the Ballymore on Wednesday.

I think he’s a Graded horse in a handicap, and that a mark of 140 underestimates him.

Being a conditional jockeys’ race, a big part of solving the puzzle that is the Martin Pipe is about who’s doing the steering. Cool Survivor has the very useful Sam Ewing on board which I see as a big plus.

There’s any amount of dangers in the field, but I’m hopeful of a huge run from Cool Survivor to hopefully end what’s been a fantastic week of racing on a high.
