Irish apprentice sensation Michael O’Sullivan takes the mount on Willie Mullins’ Haut En Couleurs. Owned by Mrs Donnelly, who has some crackers like Shishkin and State Man, this classy 6-yr-old drops into handicap company for the first time.
Has the almost inevitable steadier of 12st to overcome, but Michael takes off a valuable 3. Fascinating entrant, and a very decent second in a Gowran Park Grade 2 last month.
Il Ridoto took a Grade 3 here in January and trousered 50-odd grand into the bargain. An 8lbs rise makes life a little trickier in such a hot contest, but he’s earned it..
Mars Harper represents Gordon Elliott and ran really well in a Leopardstown handicap earlier this month. At around 22/1 that’s each-way territory for me, and Jordan Gainford up top is a rising talent. Gorgeous racing weight of 10st 9lbs.
Henry De Bromhead (Honeysuckle on Tuesday – wasn’t that absolutely fantastic?) runs two – one of which interests me greatly. Marvel De Cerisy evidently didn’t much care for right-handed Fairyhouse last time, but the novice had shown definite promise earlier.
It’s huge ask, but the shrewd handler and outstanding jockey Rachael Blackmore could be worth a little e/w interest to see if this is indeed an inspired plan.
