Two wins from two in the calendar year with ever increasing levels of impressiveness for 4/1 favourite Stumptown has seen this Gavin Cromwell trained six-year-old move to the top spot in the betting. It had been a middling run for him in recent months but we’ve seen a noticeable step-up in performance in those two outings.
Willie Mullins is sending out 11/2 shot Mr Incredible whose last run provided a very strong 150 Racing Post Racing. Before that second-place finish at Warwick in January, it had been a shocking series of races for the seven-year-old but was that the all important turning point? I’m dubious but the trainer is always going to see his horses see money in the betting – certainly at Cheltenham.
This race however is often won from deep in the field and some well-known trainers have entries who are for consideration deep in the betting. Gordon Elliott has Dunboyne at 9/1, who is our man Owen McMahon’s top tip for this race. He also has Punitive and Ballykeel, both at 18s along with Defi Bleu, who at 50s might be a real longshot.
Jonjo O’Neill has 22/1 shot Coeur Serein whilst Henry De Bromhead will saddle up Royal Thief, a winner by ten lengths last time out and you can get 11s with us.
Angels Dawn is the third favourite in the betting and is only carrying 11st, which is the lowest of any of the top contenders. Unseated her rider last time out but before that it was a first and a second. Might be being overlooked.
One More Fleurie is the outsider at 80/1.
