There are seven races over the jumps at Southwell on Wednesday and while a precautionary inspection is scheduled for 7.30am, the forecast suggests that racing will be fine to go ahead.
The Nottinghamshire track hosts one of four cards, with the Irish action coming from Fairyhouse while they are also going at Ludlow and Kempton.
Southwell’s first race goes to post at 1.35, with the closer, which features in our tips, scheduled for 4.40.

2.40 – At A Pinch @ 7/2
Brian Hughes’ planned presence aboard Sorceress Medea will attract plenty of punters on what is both her handicap debut and first outing for new trainer Laura Morgan after switching from Fergal O’Brien’s yard.
The champion jockey is sure to steer the six-year-old in the right direction but the duo may not be able to match AT A PINCH (7/2) for Harry Eustace.
While seventh when last seen over a shorter trip at Linfield in January, the five-year-old has won over Wednesday’s 2m trip, scoring at Huntingdon last February alongside Wednesday’s jockey, Jack Quinlan.
A 2lb drop in the weights after finishing fifth in a stronger contest last time will not hurt her hopes and if she can settle better, then this is a real chance under Quinlan.
4.10 – Roger Rarebit @ 8/13
The penultimate race at Southwell features Betfred’s Extra Place Race and looks like another chance for ROGER RAREBIT (8/13), who strode home by 29L when last seen at Ffos Las.
That success last Tuesday broke his maiden and was expected following form figures of 223 since his reappearance in November.
Considering he went clear with three to go suggests the drop back by a furlong or so here should not be too big an issue and a second career success is a real possibility.
Dom Brasco has shed 2lb after finishing fourth at Huntingdon which may boost his hopes, while there is an air of the unknown as Charging Point steps into handicap company for the first time.
However, Roger Rarebit’s recent showing hints at him being well placed for this one, while keeping Cameron Iles looks like another positive for Tom Lacey’s charge.
4.40 – Dev Of Tara @ 11/10
An easy winner over 2m7f at Fakenham as recently as last Tuesday, DEV OF TARA (11/10) remains off the same mark due to that success coming in a conditional jockeys’ handicap.
Wednesday’s 3m2f test marks the furthest he has raced, having twice competed over three miles in point-to-points and been fielded over shorter trips under rules.
That first career win in Norfolk will have boosted confidence among his connections and trainer Olly Murphy has retained Lewis Stones in the saddle, who can claim 5lbs off his back.
Murphy has a 25 per cent strike rate over the last 14 days, winning 10 of his last 40 entries, and the ingredients are there for another success in the card’s closer.
Competition could come from the returning Miss Antipova, who is back after a 563-day absence, having signed off in the summer of 2021 with placed finishes at Worcester and Uttoxeter.
