Racing on Tuesday afternoon comes from Market Rasen and Taunton while, in the evening, Wolverhampton hosts an all-weather card at Dunstall Park.

Our fancies include a C&D runner at Market Rasen who has Champion Jockey Brian Hughes in the saddle. She is a mare who remains open to improvement and is still off a workable handicap mark.

Selections

  • Market Rasen 14:45 – Shighness @ 2/1
  • Taunton 15:00 – Milan Bridge @ 9/4
  • Wolverhampton 19:30 – Smiling Sunflower @ 6/4

Tip 1

SHIGHNESS (2/1) scored over this C&D at Market Rasen on her penultimate outing. She went clear of her rivals in the closing stages of that race to score by an empathetic eight lengths. It was her first victory in handicap company.

Micky Hammond’s runner was unable to successfully follow up from a 6lb higher mark at Haydock (3m½f) on her latest outing as she had to settle for fourth place of 12. She stayed on well after the last fence at the Lancashire course, but she never troubled the winner.

The mare features on the Betfred Betfinder as one of the most Napped selections of the day. With Champion Jockey Brian Hughes booked for the ride, a big run must be expected by her connections on her return to this winning course.

Tip 2

Jockey Harry Cobden has opted to ride at Taunton today rather than Market Rasen. One of his main reasons for choosing the Somerset venue will be to ride MILAN BRIDGE (9/4) in the handicap chase at 15:00.

Paul Nicholls’ runner was handed a walkover at Ascot on his opening start over fences. He then made a few errors in his jumping at Sandown over a shorter trip of 2m4f. The step back up in distance appeared to be helping at Wincanton (3m1f) before he was brought down when travelling strongly.

The Ditcheat horse retains the cheekpieces which worked well last time out. He has bottom weight in this small field, and it looks like a great opportunity for him to add to his tally as a chaser.

Tip 3

On what was the first start for her new yard, SMILING SUNSHINE (6/4) got off the mark at this course just eight days ago. She got off a terrible start in that race but was able to make up the ground she had lost and score by just over a length.

Michael Appleby’s filly needs to carry a 5lb penalty on her return to Dunstall Park, but on the evidence of her last appearance, there should be a lot more to come from this horse. If she breaks on level terms this time, she can reserve a lot of her energy for the business end of this 7f contest.

The daughter of Fulbright won over this trip when she was in the hands of Darryll Holland. It would be no surprise if Fredrick Larson made the running on his filly and ensure it is a stamina test for the rest of the field, as this horse has shown she is comfortable over the extended 1m distance.
