A meeting with former boss Nathan Jones awaits Luton if they are able to overcome League 2 opposition in Tuesday’s FA Cup Replay at Blundell Park but they were given all they could handle in the original tie. We take a look at the match and pick out a couple of bets that we think are decent value according to the odds at Betfred…
Grimsby vs Luton Betting Tips
- Back BTTS at 5/6
- Back Luton to win in the Match Result at 9/10
- Back 1-2 in the Correct Score Market at 15/2
The home side are looking relatively safe in the League 2 table and with so many games in hand on those sides around them, if they went on a magical run then the play-offs aren’t even off the table.
Having already beaten three teams from higher leagues to get to this point, they went to Kenilworth Road and could easily have caused the upset without the need for a replay. That 2-2 draw was one of the games of the round and hope is abound that the second game can be just as entertaining.
One thing Grimsby haven’t been great at so far in the league is scoring goals. They are averaging just over a goal a game and top scorer Harry Clifton only has seven to his name for a goal every 369 minutes on the field of play. That isn’t great but when it comes to the FA Cup, they’ve smashed ten in four games including blitzing League 1 promotion chasing Plymouth 5-1 in the first round proper.
When we look at what is going on at Luton, what is apparent is they’ve not missed a beat since former gaffer Nathan Jones uprooted and took the Southampton job. In has come Rob Edwards after a disappointing spell at Watford but the 40 year-old had an impressive time in charge of Forest Green Rovers and has the Hatters very much in the play-off hunt for potential promotion to the Premier League.
Sometimes we look at teams and think that a deep cup-run is less than ideal and Luton might well fit that category. They do not have a massive squad and the Championship is an extremely competitive division. I’m going to be very interested to see who he sends out there considering they have midweek games for the rest of the month.
One bet I do like is Both Teams to Score as with the home fans really behind them coupled with the fact Luton have scored in every game since early in November, the 5/6 on offer for both teams to hit the back of the net feels a more than fair price. I also like the Evens on offer for over 2.5 goals.
In the Match Result Market, I have gone back and forth but the fact is Luton have won four straight games away from home and that is a good run no matter who the opposition is. They seem to have found a good setup for games on the road so I’ll tentatively take the 9/10 on the Hatters winning in 90 minutes with the 15/2 available on the 1-2 scoreline being my top selection in the market.
