Sheffield Wednesday are in tremendous form but fellow League 1 side Fleetwood have forced them into an FA Cup Replay for the right to face either Ipswich or Burnley in the 5th round. We take a look at the match and pick out a couple of betting tips using the latest odds from Betfred…
Fleetwood vs Sheffield Wednesday Betting Tips
In earning a replay, Fleetwood probably had one of the most impressive results in what was a fourth round lacking in big upsets. The Lancashire club are in the mire down in League 1 as one of several clubs within a slate of games of dropping into the relegation zone whereas Sheffield Wednesday look on the fast track to elevate themselves back to the Championship.
One big difference between the two sides this Tuesday evening however is the expected presence of Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan in the starting XI. In terms of contracted players to League 1 clubs, you could easily make the argument that the Scottish international is the best player in the division. He went off with cramp at the weekend following his return to the side following a hamstring issue but manager Darren Moore says he’ll be good to go.
The 33 year-old is an accomplished passer of the ball and adds that all important ingredient of quality to the middle of the park, which is often something teams miss with all the hustle and bustle.
In league play, Fleetwood are running a four-game losing streak including a 1-0 defeat to Wednesday just a fortnight ago. They’ve also tasted defeat at the hands of Burton Albion, Portsmouth and Oxford in that time.
When you consider that Sheff Weds have won every league game since a Boxing Day victory here at Highbury Stadium against these very same opponents, if you were going to bet this game solely on form then you would clearly take the away win at 10/11. I’m of the belief that form can often be thrown out when it comes to cup games and considering these two teams have played three times since Christmas along with the fact that all have been tight contests, I think it will be nip and tuck once again.
Therefore I like the draw at 5/2 in 90 minutes and the two teams to play an extra 30. That 1-1 scoreline at 6/1 is calling me and that will be my second selection.
