Monday’s race card at Fontwell features seven contests, with the action set to start at 13:20 and finish with the finale at 16:30, and we have picked out three tips to start the week.

Included in the selections is a tip for the opener, while we attempt to pick out potential winners in what could be competitive 14:30 and 16:30 races as well at the West Sussex venue.

Fontwell Park Racing Tips

  • 13:20 – Balinesker Beach @ 4/1
  • 14:30 – Kilbeg King @ 11/8
  • 16:30 – Tamaris @ 10/1

13:20 – Balinesker Beach @ 4/1

BALINESKER BEACH (4/1) is on the same mark for what was a good third-place finish on his handicap bow at Southwell last November and now, stepping up in trip, he is expected to fight for the win in this Fontwell opener.

A previous points winner, Neil Mullholland’s charge has some rivals to get past, including Gavroche D’Allier (9/2), who was third after being fitted with cheekpieces for his handicap debut three weeks ago at Huntingdon, while West Orchard (9/1) may also contend.

14:30 – Kilbeg King @ 11/8

The 14:30 is a Novices’ Hurdle for four-year-olds and over and is set to feature 10 runners, including Irish point winner KILBEG KING (11/8).

Anthony Honeyball’s horse won eye-catchingly on Rules debut in a Uttoxeter bumper in March 2021 then, upon reappearance at Ffos Las 20 months later, was successful on his hurdles bow.

The eight-year-old was then well beaten when finishing sixth in the Grade 1 Challow Novices’ Hurdle on New Year’s Eve at Newbury, with experienced jockey Aidan Coleman on board, but this a step down and looks like being a much more suitable race.

Others to keep an eye on include Red Happy (11/2) and Star Flyer (5/1).

16:30 – Tamaris @ 10/1

After transferring to Joe Tizzard’s yard earlier in the winter, TAMARIS (10/1) came in a respectable fourth of 13 over C&D in December.

That outing serves as a good omen that more is to come from the six-year-old, especially at Fontwell, after he had previously failed to pull up any trees in various races at Newbury, Salisbury and Chelmsford.

Tamaris took in an all-weather Flat race at Lingfield last month, finishing seventh of 10, but back hurdling now, is tipped to go well at Fontwell again in this 12-strong Handicap Hurdle.
