Two sides battling at the wrong end of the Premier League table meet on Sunday at the City Ground as Nottingham Forest host Leeds.

The pair are separated by just three points, with Forest holding the advantage, albeit having played a game more. However, with them unbeaten in their last six games at home in the league, Steve Cooper’s side could have too much for Jesse Marsch’s visitors.

Nottingham Forest to win

This is the pair’s first top-flight meeting at the City Ground since October 1998, a game that ended 1-1.

However, Forest were the 2-0 winners the last time these two met in February 2020 and their recent improvement at home has been vital to them moving up and out of the bottom three.

In contrast, Leeds have the league’s second-worst away record this season, winning only once, a victory that came back in October at Liverpool.

Leeds are another side who have been better on their own patch and it could be a fruitless trip down the M1.

Brennan Johnson Anytime Goalscorer

Johnson took his time to transfer his brilliant Championship form onto the Premier League stage but he nows look to have found his feet.

Cooper is employing the Welshman in a more central role than in the past and it paid off in his team’s last home league game as Johnson netted both goals in January’s 2-0 win over Leicester.

As of writing, Leeds have the fourth-worst defensive record in the league and Johnson could well get plenty of chances.

Liam Cooper to be booked

Leeds captain Cooper has only been booked twice this season but could struggle with the pace of Forest’s attack, especially Johnson.

Cooper is back following a recent knee injury and there is a chance that he may not be entirely up to full speed.

Robin Koch’s suspension and the departure of Diego Llorente could also provide him with an unfamiliar defensive partner as January signing Max Wober steps into the side.

It might be cliché but two left footers paired together seems to make everybody uncomfortable and Cooper could well find himself in Robert Jones’ notebook.

Over 2.5 goals

Successful over 2.5 goals bets have been a feature of Leeds’ recent games, with seven of their last nine Premier League matching seeing that tally.

Forest’s matches are a bit more sedate but this clash of styles, with the hosts compact and disciplined and their opponents happy to have the ball, provides hope of an open game.

Patrick Bamford’s return offers the Whites a threat they have so severely lacked this season and it could be a lively encounter on Sunday.
