With no Deadline Day signings, Everton are doomed to relegation from the Premier League.
That’s the view of former Welsh international Robert Earnshaw, who told Betfred TV that, despite the appointment of Sean Dyche in place of Frank Lampard, it will be the Championship for the Toffees next season.
On the latest instalment of The Betfred Football Show, he described ex-Burnley boss Dyche as “a good man and a good manager” that will make the team better – but suggested they still won’t get enough points to avoid the trap door.
He said: “They are not good enough defensively. They are too open and the only way to improve that is to sign new players, but they didn’t sign any.”
Although predicting a 3-1 loss to Premier League leaders Arsenal at Goodison, he thinks the home side will have nothing to lose which makes them dangerous.
Earnshaw, who makes it into football folklore as the only player to score a hat-trick in the Premier League, all three EFL divisions, the FA Cup, the League Cup and his country, has vast experience playing in Wales, Scotland, England and Israel before ending his career across the pond.
He’s predicting a two-nil win at Spurs for Manchester City – and thinks the title will end up at the Etihad as Arsenal have yet to have a blip.
The 41-year-old praised the impact Erik Ten Hag has had on Manchester United, particularly the demands he’s placed on Marcus Rashford as the Reds are now “a team not individuals.”
He thinks United will beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at Old Trafford – and reckons injury-ravaged Liverpool will play out a goalless draw at Wolves.
Earnshaw predicts Brentford will win two-nil at home to Southampton, while fast-improving Aston Villa will triumph 2-1 against Leicester.
Finally, he believes there will be home wins by 2-0 and 3-2 for Newcastle and Nottingham Forest against West Ham and Leeds respectively.
