On Friday, there will be a seven-race card at the North Yorkshire venue of Catterick, and we have three tips below for the afternoon event.
The going is set to be good to soft and good in places, and the action will commence at 13:10, with the final race setting off at approximately 16:12.
Catterick Racing Tips
13:40 Catterick – Hold Up La Colmine @ 5/4
15:10 Catterick – Muse Of Fire @ 11/4
15:40 Catterick – Gazette Bourgeoise @ 11/4
13:40 Catterick – Hold Up La Colmine @ 5/4
Friday’s first tip comes from a maiden hurdle where Hold Up La Colmine (5/4) looks set for a solid run.
He has had three previous starts and shown good promise in each of them, coming home in the top four each time with at least 14 horses taking part in each.
The six-year-old, trained by Philip Hobbs, came fourth and third in two races at Chepstow with his last race at Lingfield a few days before Christmas – he finished third and only just over a length adrift of race winner No Tackle.
Now, he is targeting a first-ever win and remains a capable runner – he was the ante-post favourite in his Lingfield run.
The biggest challenge could come from Ballygeary (4/1), who finished second in a Sedgefield bumper last month, but the consistency of Hold Up La Colmine should see him through as the winner.
15:10 Catterick – Muse Of Fire @ 11/4
Muse Of Fire (11/4) returned after exactly a year away from racing on New Year’s Eve to take part in the two-mile Handicap Chase at Warwick.
Although he finished 12 lengths behind the eventual winner Unit Sixtyfour, it was a good display from Gary Hanmer’s experienced nine-year-old, who did not show any real signs of rustiness despite such a long absence.
It was Hanmer’s first race as Muse Of Fire’s trainer, and now he is hoping to guide his charge to win in the Novices’ Handicap Chase on Friday.
He won a point-to-point race four years ago and hasn’t been in the winner’s circle since, but his pedigree makes him the pick of the field, despite the potential challenge from Snowy Clouds (3/1), who came third at Market Ran last time out and was ante-post favourite for that race.
15:40 – Gazette Bourgeoise @ 11/4
The third tip is from the Mares’ Handicap Chase, where only four horses will be competing.
Looking at the field, it seems like potentially a duel between Gazette Bourgeoise (11/4) and Credo (4/5) is on the cards. The former was a two-time winner over hurdles last season, crossing the line first at both Hereford and Stratford.
She came second as the joint-favourite at Wetherby in December and is now hoping to go one better. Credo scored at Chepstow in November and is dropping down in class, so could be dangerous here.
However, Gazette Bourgeoise offers more value and is more than capable of challenging.
