Leicester’s six-race card on Wednesday begins at 13:25, with the action running through until 16:20. We have picked out three tips for the afternoon East Midlands action.

The early going at Leicester is good on the chase course and soft/heavy over the hurdles. Among the highlights is the EBF British Stallion Studs ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle, which is due off at 14:35, and the nine-strong Handicap Chase which follows soon after at 15:10.

Leicester Racing Tips

  • 13:25 – Weebill @ 4/6
  • 14:35 – Georges Saint @ 7/2
  • 15:10 – Moonlighter @ 7/2

13:25 – Weebill @ 4/6

WEEBILL (4/6) is officially the second-best rated horse in the eight-strong field for the opener, behind Us And Them, who hasn’t won in 26 runs, and should be there or thereabouts again after winning this race last year.

Weebill won a nine-runner handicap hurdle at Market Rasen on his return 37 days ago and looks to have the experience to come out on top.

He appears to be weighted well for this race and also has a second at Catterick and a third-place finish at Wetherby from March of last year on his record to further his claims.

Red Bond (13/2), who is set for his first run over hurdles and is now with Oliver Sherwood, is another to keep an eye on.

14:35 – Georges Saint (7/2)

Venetia Williams’ runner could well have the beating of this six-strong field in the 14:35 Novices’ Hurdle.

GEORGES SAINT (7/2) is a dual chase winner in France, who also impressed when second in a handicap at Bangor when returning to hurdles in November.

He was then expected to win here in December but again finished second when odds-on favourite and, while that performance is a bit of a concern, he is well capable of making up for it this midweek.

Obvious dangers include American Sniper (9/4) and Cuthbert Dibble (6/4), with the former landing a Chepstow maiden and following up with a novice success at Taunton, while the latter, who steps up in trip, caught the eye when third of 13 in a similar novice hurdle here last time out.

15:10 – Moonlighter (7/2)

The next race due off is the Leicester Racecourse Ideal Conference Venue Handicap Chase and it looks to be a competitive nine that will line up.

MOONLIGHTER (7/2), stands out, however, after a recent handicap victory at Chepstow, which came on the back of a runners-up finish at Stratford and a third at Ffos Las.

Others likely to contend include Go Steady (7/1), Family Business (9/1) and Jacamar (7/4).
