The second legs of the EFL Cup semi-finals are taking place this midweek and first up we have Newcastle United vs Southampton on Tuesday Night. We’ve taken a look at this one and given you a couple of suggested bets.
Newcastle vs Southampton Tips
Newcastle (4/9) enter this second leg with a goal advantage, thanks to Joelinton’s 73rd minute strike at St Mary’s.
Southampton (7/1) will have to come out positively in the search for an equaliser and that could play right into the Magpie’s hands.
Eddie Howe’s men have had a full week’s rest due to their omission from the FA Cup at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday and will be raring to go in an attempt to reach their first Wembley final for decades.
Nathan Jones side had no such luxury, yet did manage a positive result against Championship side Blackpool, with a Romain Perraud brace enough to secure a 2-1 victory, to progress to the 5th round.
Team news:
Howe has no new injury concerns but is still without Jonjo Shelvey, Matt Targett and Emil Krafth.
Juan Larios and Tino Livramento remain out for this one and Alex McCarthy, Armel Bella-Kotchap and Moussa Djenepo are also major doubts for the Saints.
Newcastle to win to nil – 11/10
Newcastle have lost just twice all season and have won 11 of their last 15 games in all competitions.
One reason for this is their superb defensive organisation and they have kept a staggering ten clean sheets in their last 11 matches.
I expect this to be another professional narrow win to nil for the Magpies.
Callum Wilson anytime scorer – 11/10
Newcastle’s main striker is on a real barren streak but I think this could be the game where he breaks that drought.
Wilson scored six goals in his opening nine Premier League games and I expect him to go on a similar spurt if he can get on the score sheet on Tuesday night.
