A couple of tips from Lingfield on Tuesday, coming right up…
Starting with – hold your breaths – GOSHEN in the 2m beginners’ chase at 1.15.
Gary Moore’s seven-year-old is a complete enigma. You never know if he’s going to look a world beater, or completely bomb out.
Unfortunately, he did the latter at his first attempt over fences. Because of that bitterly disappointing run at Ascot in October last year, he’s an attractive price here when you consider he’s racing off level weights with a couple of horses rated 18lbs inferior to him.
It’s obviously a risk that he may jump poorly again, but I think he’s worth another chance. If his trainer reckons it’s worth another go, then so do I.
Put it this way – if he gets it right, he should see off Christopher Wood and Quel Destin in the fashion of a long odds-on shot.
My next and final tip for Tuesday’s Lingfield card is ARTEMIS KIMBO in the mares’ novices’ hurdle at 2.25.
Dan Skelton’s six-year-old has a penalty to defy after a 7L thumping of her six rivals in a mares’ maiden hurdle at Leicester in early December last year, but this looks a modest field so I’m willing to chance she can do just that.
Spring Note represents powerful connections, but Nicky Henderson’s horses aren’t running all that well right now and the form of her second at Southwell last month has not aged well at all.
Neither has Space Voyage’s heavy defeat at Newbury on New Year’s Eve – while the two outsiders look well, well off it on what they’ve achieved to date.
