Wrexham will look to continue their fairy-tale run in the FA Cup, but they will need to be at their best when they welcome Sheffield United to the Racecourse Ground on Sunday afternoon.
Phil Parkinson’s side began their FA Cup campaign in the fourth qualifying round, and needed two legs to beat Blyth Spartans to reach the first round proper.
Victories over Oldham Athletic and Farnborough booked their place in the third round, when they overcame Coventry City 4-3 in a thrilling tie at the CBS Arena.
Paul Heckingbottom’s Sheffield United beat Millwall 2-0 to advance into the fourth round, and they will go into the game in good spirits after a fine run of results.
Wrexham vs Sheffield United Betting Tips
Even though Wrexham have lost just one of their last 20 matches in all competitions, they are the outsiders at 16/5 to win Sunday’s tie at the Racecourse Ground, while a draw to at least earn a replay is priced at 13/5.
The National League outfit will face their toughest opponent of the season when they host the Blades, who are unbeaten in nine matches in all competitions, and it comes as no surprise to see the visitors installed as 5/6 favourites.
Parkinson is expected to name the strongest possible XI he can do as Wrexham eye another FA Cup upset.
Striker Paul Mullin will once again lead the line and try to add to his tally of 26 goals from 30 appearances in all competitions.
New signing Andy Cannon will hope to get the chance to start in midfield, but he faces competition from Thomas O’Connor and Luke Young.
Blades’ boss Heckingbottom continues to be without Ciaran Clark, Enda Stevens, John Fleck, Rhian Brewster and Rhys Norrington-Davies through injury.
Still, Oli McBurnie could feature at some point as he continues to work towards full fitness.
Veteran forward Billy Sharp is set to lead the United line, with Daniel Jebbison joining him in attack.
Sheffield United to win @ 5/6
The Blades are able to prioritise Sunday’s FA Cup tie, and they should have no need to make wholesale changes.
Heckingbottom’s troops have a 13-point cushion over third-placed Watford in the Championship table, and will use Sunday’s tie to build on their unbeaten run.
Only Rotherham United have managed to get the better of the Blades in their last 14 matches, but even that surprise defeat was only by 1-0 scorelines.
Over 2.5 goals @ 8/11
While Sheffield United are expected to come out on top, Wrexham may be able to make a contest of Sunday’s fixture.
The Blades may have scored two goals in three of their last four games on the road, but they have only kept two clean sheets in their last seven games in all competitions.
Wrexham’s scoring record is formidable, and the Red Dragons have scored in 35 consecutive competitive matches at the Racecourse Ground.
Over 2.5 goals would have landed in all of Wrexham’s last eight matches, and if they are to be eliminated in the fourth round of the FA Cup, they will go down fighting.
