A place in the Super Bowl is at stake as the San Francisco 49ers travel to the City of Brotherly Love to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday evening (20:00 UK time).
49ers @ Eagles NFL Betting Tips
This NFC Championship Game promises plenty and pitting two of the NFL’s very best teams against each other.
The Niners (23/20) are in their third NFC title game in four years and looking to have the first rookie quarterback to make the Super Bowl, while the Eagles (8/11) have bounced back after a few years in the wilderness post their 2018 Super Bowl win.
Since taking over for an injured Jimmy Garroppolo (who himself took over from an injured Trey Lance), third-string rookie quarterback Brock Purdy – a.k.a. ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ – has been absolutely on fire for the Niners.
Starting in the regular season and playoffs, Purdy is now 8-0 and has thrown 16 touchdowns and only four interceptions. However, the Eagles lead the league in sacks, so this is a challenge that Purdy won’t have faced up until this point.
However, the intriguing aspect of this contest is that the San Francisco’s defence has been excellent this season, too. What that means is that we’ll likely see a game that is a defensive tussle as both offences try to break the shackles – and we can’t wait!
Team News
Avonte Maddox was limited at practice this week for Philly because of a sore toe, while Robert Quinn is expected to play despite a problem in his back and Brandon Graham is probable despite being sick.
As for the 49ers, Ambry Thomas could be a question mark because of an ankle sprain, Charles Omenihu has an issue with his oblique and Jimmy Garoppolo will not be available due to a foot injury.
Christian McCaffrey – First Touchdown Scorer @ 5/1
McCaffrey has scored a touchdown in eight straight games for the 49ers, so I fancy him to find the end zone once again here.
He was acquired mid-season from Carolina, and could go down as one of San Francisco’s best ever trades, if he leads them to Super Bowl victory.

As mentioned above, Brock Purdy has been sensational since taking over the QB reigns from Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo.
The brilliance of the Niners offence is that it doesn’t rely solely on Purdy – with Swiss army knives like Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel and weapons in the passing attack like Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle, San Francisco can pose plenty of different questions of the Eagles defence.
Perhaps the inexperience of Purdy will cost the Niners here – rookie QBs are 0-4 in Championship games in NFL history. However, the Niners have won 12 straight, their defence is immense so I fancy them to cover the spread and advance to the Super Bowl.
