Erling Haaland is turning out to be an absolute nightmare for me.
Every time he plays, I take my place hiding behind the sofa for the Norwegian is costing me a small fortune – and I fear there are more losses to come with us only being half way through the season.
So far, because of Betfred’s Double Delight/Hat-trick Heaven promotion whereby you get enhanced odds for braces and hat-tricks, City’s superstar striker has cost me over a million quid…. which is more than all the other Premier League players combined!
He’s 10/1 with us to score his fifth hat-trick of this remarkable campaign when the Blues host Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth round tomorrow.
Haaland already has 31 goals in all competitions to his name this term, making him an absolute shoo-in to pick up the 2023 Golden Boot.
We had one punter who got a fiver on Haaland to break Dixie Dean’s long-standing record of 60 goals in a season.
Everton fan Willy Harrison, a 45-year-old father-of-five from the Wirral, slapped the bet on to wind up his Liverpool-supporting mate while cleaning windows in Manchester city centre.
Willy is hoping Haaland does break the 96-year record held by the Everton legend so he could pocket £500, but would much prefer the Toffees to preserve their Premier League status.
Meanwhile, the break from Premier League action couldn’t come soon enough for my beloved United.
Since the Manchester Derby, we’ve slipped up and lost points in the 90th minute against both Crystal Palace and league leaders Arsenal.
Focus for them switches to the fourth round of the FA Cup this weekend, as Reading come to Old Trafford.
United are 9/2 at Betfred to win the world’s oldest knockout competition, with Liverpool available at 7/1 – while, unsurprisingly, the favourites are City at 5/2.
Pep Guardiola’s men are 8/11 to triumph in tomorrow’s encounter in 90 minutes, with the Gunners quoted at 16/5.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Pep and his one-time assistant Mikel Arteta opt to rest their star names for the cup so that they can concentrate on that epic battle at the top of the Premier League table.
Personally, I hope they don’t start all this rotation business and instead just go for it, putting out their best possible teams to get the fourth round matches off to a flyer.
