Providing the track passes an inspection at 7am, we’ve got racing at Huntingdon to enjoy on Friday morning – and I’ve got a couple of tips for the occasion.
Starting with the card’s feature race, the Listed Mares’ Chase over 2m4f, at 3.00.
My idea of the winner is Nigel Twiston-Davies’ ZAMBELLA, who has taken her form to new heights this season having won a couple of Listed events at Carlisle and Doncaster in November and December respectively by over a combined 21L.
She already has Pink Legend well held on her last run, but faces new competition from Gavin Cromwell’s Jeremys Flame and Tweed Skirt for Nicky Henderson.
The latter has a bit to do on ratings, and I’d personally be surprised if she can put it up to the selection – while Irish raider Jeremys Flame, as talented as she is, is having her sixth run of the campaign and is travelling over so comes with a few question marks attached.
Just over half an hour later we’ve got a Pertemps Qualifier – and I’m chancing THE BOMBER LISTON for Nicky Henderson.
I tipped this lad up a few weeks ago in another qualifier at Warwick, but the seven-year-old was a non-runner and hasn’t been seen since.
Clearly, connections are desperate to get him qualified, and given he’s only rated 128 at present there’s a strong chance he’s here to win, not just compete.
The Bomber Liston clearly hasn’t been easy to train as we’ve only seen him on the track a handful of times in a couple of years, but it seems things are slowly but surely starting to click and, fit from a very respectable reappearance at Kempton on Boxing Day – the form of which has aged beautifully – he should be ready to strike here.
